What is Muganga?

Muganga is a health technology company based in Bukavu, South Kivu, in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Muganga means 'the one who heals' in Swahili. We build the infrastructure that lets African health systems digitise and use their own clinical data  and then the AI tools that sit on top of it.

What do you actually build?

Two things that hold together. First the infrastructure: turning paper clinical archives into structured datasets the facility owns and can query. Then the tools that become possible once that data is readable  starting with Riposte, our epidemic response platform, then Griot and CORETX.

What is Muganga Riposte?

Accepted Answer

Riposte is an epidemic response platform. It tracks an outbreak in real time, coordinates the logistics it demands  kits, equipment, capacity, teams  and connects front-line providers to hospitals, health zones and the authorities. It is deployed today in DR Congo with Panzi Hospital, against the Bundibugyo Ebola epidemic.

Is Riposte only for Ebola?

No. Riposte follows epidemic and syndemic events across the continent  cholera, mpox, Lassa, measles, diphtheria, polio  with the source and date behind every figure. Bundibugyo Ebola is simply the outbreak the platform is deployed against right now, and the one that shaped it.

Is Muganga a medical device or a diagnostic tool?

Accepted Answer

No. Nothing we publish is a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, or a substitute for clinical judgement or official public health guidance. Clinical decisions stay with clinicians.

How does Muganga handle patient data?

Accepted Answer

Clinical records belong to the facility that holds them. Any work involving them happens under a written agreement, on de-identified data, with limits set in advance on what may be stored and for how long. The public side of Riposte holds no patient data at all  it runs on aggregate figures that are already published.

Why build this in eastern DR Congo?

Accepted Answer

Because this is where the problem is, and because tools designed elsewhere keep arriving late and fitting badly. Building here makes the constraints  intermittent power, thin bandwidth, stretched staff  design inputs rather than surprises.
